Visit us at the YSU Summer Festival of the Arts

Dear friends,

Please join us this Saturday from 11:00 AM to noon at Debartolo Hall (The Lemon Grove stage) for a Jenny open mic at this year’s YSU Summer Festival of the Arts.

If you would like to participate, please bring a print-out of your best poetry, fiction, or nonfiction. We only ask that you keep your reading to 5 minutes or less, that your piece not feature any graphic content or very foul language (the SFA is an open-air event, and a family friendly one), and that you have fun.

The Summer Festival of the Arts amounts to two days of absolute magic on YSU campus. The event, much like Jenny itself, is designed to “promote the diversity of art here in the Mahoning Valley, [and] equally welcomes regional and national fine and performing arts.” Jenny is honored to be part of this Youngstown tradition, and we hope that you will help us make our hour a special one.

If you have any questions about this event or about Jenny, please forward them to:

This open mic event is made possible by the friendship and support of Jacob Harver and the Lemon Grove Cafe. For more information on the Grove, please visit their official website at:

We wish you a good summer, and as always, the very best in life and in art.

Many thanks from the SLAA!

The Student Literary Arts Association would like to thank everyone who has helped make this Spring 2011 issue of Jenny a great success.  The Jenny launch party was as much fun for us as it was for you, and we thank all in attendance for joining us to celebrate.  And thank you for reading, as well:  We’ve had 4,205 page views just since March 30th.

Thanks to your many generous donations, we’ve raised funds that will enable us to expand what we’re able to achieve with Jenny.  These gracious gifts will be put to good use in the coming issues.  We are a nonprofit organization, so every dollar raised goes into expanding the magazine’s scope and capabilities, and we thank you for that.

Forthcoming will be a photo gallery for all those who weren’t able to join.  The event was also covered by Valley 24 and WYTV.

And don’t forget:  We’re currently accepting submissions (including photography, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry) for the Fall 2011 issue.  You can read our submission guidelines for more details.

Thank you again.  This magazine is as much ours as it is yours.  We thank you for taking up this literary conversation with us.

Join us for the Jenny Spring ’11 launch party!

We’d like to thank everyone who submitted their work for the Spring 2011 issue.  We had a lot of fun reading your work, and we’ve made selections for this issue.  But we’re now taking submissions for the Fall 2011 issue #003, and we’re very much looking forward to those as well.  Please check our Submissions page for details.  We’ll be taking Fall submissions up until October 28, 2011.

In the meanwhile, we’d like to welcome you to our Jenny premiere party, which will be hosted at the Oakland Center for the Arts on April 30th, 2011 at 7pm.

You’ll find:

– Live readings of this issue’s poetry and prose, as well as presentations of our published photography and interviews.
– Live songs from local musician Chris Splain.
– A book signing with Rebecca Barnhouse.
– A video presentation of Jenny’s collaboration with SMARTS (Students Motivated by the Arts).
– Food. Drink. Friends. Community.

Click here for more details, and again thank you for making Jenny all that it is.  See you there!
