Deadline for Spring 2011 approaching!

We’d like to remind you that the deadline for the Spring Issue is quickly approaching!  All submissions must be received by March 10th.  Again, we are taking submissions of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction via e-mail.  Please head over to the Submission Guidelines page for details on how to submit, as well as which e-mail address to send it to.

We look forward to your submission.  Thank you for participating in Jenny, and for helping us to make this magazine everything that it is.

Youngstown Reading Series Presents: Lori Jakiela

This event will be tonight, February 17th, at 7pm at Dorian Books. More details can be found here.

As a native Pittsburgher, Lori Jakiela (rhymes with tequila) has a weakness for gigantic deep-fried fish sandwiches, thinks slippy is a real word, and sometimes drinks Iron City Beer for sentimental reasons.

Her hometown, Trafford, PA, is widely thought of as the birthplace of the chocolate-covered pickle.

Jakiela, who once had a great fear of flying, worked as a flight attendant at a major airline for six years. She is currently on leave from the airlines. She now spends her days on the ground, teaching at The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, where she is also director of the writing program.

Miss New York Has Everything (Warner Books) was published in January 2006. Jakiela’s essays and poems have appeared in DoubleTake, River Styx, Creative Nonfiction, The Pittsburgh Post Gazette, The Chicago Review, 5 AM, Nerve Cowboy, Tears in the Fence, Chiron Review, Slipstream, and elsewhere. Her chapbook, The Regulars — a collection of poems and essays — was published by Liquid Paper Press (See Links) and was awarded first prize in Nerve Cowboy’s 2001 chapbook contest.

We’re very happy to have had such an encouraging response to this magazine and to have been able to share our stories with you. The excitement and celebration surrounding our launch are just the beginning as we move into 2011, and as we move toward our Spring ’11 issue.

As we wish you a happy new year, we encourage you to submit your work for publication in this Spring issue. You can read more about our mission at our About Jenny page, and please review our Submission Guidelines for our specific requirements.

Thank you for sharing your stories with us. Best wishes in 2011.

The Jenny Debut! (Photo Gallery)

The night of October 24th was a huge success, and we were all overwhelmed and deeply gratified to have such a great turnout. Snacks, wine, great music, an auction full of wonderful prizes and the amazing range of readings made our launch party one that we were proud to present and delighted to attend.

In addition to the great turnout, we were fortunate to be featured by members of the local media, including the YSU Jambar (which produced a video of our premiere) and Valley24.com.

In case you missed it, we present here some photos from the Jenny premiere, all photographed by Megan Harris.  And remember:  We are now taking submissions for the Spring issue of Jenny!  Visit our Submission Guidelines page for details.
