Welcome to Issue 7 of the Jenny.
This has been a big year for us. We’ve been trying new things, we’ve been expanding our community and developing our own art. Because in the end that’s what this is all about, art and community, and that above all else is always what we have loved most.
Last semester we tried something brave and new and published a print and web-edition called Eddie Loves Debbie, centered on stories about our home, Youngstown.
This semester we’ve teamed up with YSU’s LGBTQIA club, YSUnity, to bring you the winner of their recent Voices of Power contest.
Next semester? Who knows. We have some things planned but we’re keeping them hush hush for now. I’ve heard loose lips sink ships.
For now, though, we’ve worked and our authors have worked, to bring you the classiest act in literature we can. And I think we’ve done well. We have some startlingly beautiful prose in David Tarleton’s “Whitman’s Words”, some downright gutwrenching horror in Zachary T. Owen’s “Growth; Or Meat Finger Beginning; Or Nancy’s Lament”. Some thoughtful Non-Fiction, including “Standing” by Hilary Schaper and a touching story about family in Edward A. Dougherty’s “The Memorial Chain”. We’ve offered up to you all an astounding collection of poetry as well from Natasha Rodriguez Carroll’s “Velorio” to Ric Schumacher’s “Two Old Boys”. These are just a few of my favorites, but we’ve built, I think, a wide enough buffet that it should please any and all tastes.
That’s what we’re here to do, after all.
Thank you all for your continued interest, submissions, and appreciation of Jenny. Without you, there’d be no us.
With warm regards,
Couri Johnson
