Welcome to Issue 11 of Jenny Magazine
I am so incredibly proud of this issue. Every piece you encounter here—art, fiction, poetry, plays, creative nonfiction—was created by a female-identifying artist. This issue is dedicated solely to women.
Women are amazing, but unfortunately disparity between female and male writers being published still exists in the literary world. VIDA does great work yearly to investigate those numbers, and we’re hoping that this special issue of Jenny helps work towards addressing that disparity—as well as showcase some great work by female-identifying creators.
We received so many submissions for this issue—the most I’ve seen at once since being on staff!—that it was hard to narrow it down to these few. The work we chose to publish will linger in your mind long after you read it, whether because of imagery, humor, language, story, or form. Pieces like “Tending History,” “Other Girls,” and “Our Mouths are Stained with Bitterness” stole my breath away, and I’m confident that you’ll have a similar experience with this issue.
So take your time. Enjoy. And thank you for reading.
