Calabi-Yau Manifolds
Eugenio Calabi, sits in Princeton, NJ,
looking at a plate of pasta.
String theory, he thinks,
that sounds good, string theory.
Shing-Tung Yau, in 1974
orders Mo Goo Gai Pan.
The waiters tells him they’re out.
He orders Lo Mein.
The rest is history.
Although, for the sake of accuracy,
we must note that both Calabi and Yau
were disappointed.
Neither dish was cooked
the way they liked it,
the way their mother did:
with love.
